THE FUTURAMA VOICE CAST IS BACK!!!
UPDATE - August 1, 2009 @ 12H00IGN.com contacted 20th Century Fox TV and they got this info: "Just wanted you to know that we now have deals with the entire Futurama voice cast to return: John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Billy West, Tress MacNeille and Katey Sagal." So, the main voice cast is back in the series, now we have to wait the deals with the supporting voice actors, I'm talking about Phil LaMarr (Hermes), Lauren Tom (Amy), David Herman (Scruffy) and Frank Welker (Nibbler + many animal sounds) David X Cohen and Matt Groening said: "We are thrilled to have our incredible cast back. The call has already gone out to the animators to put the mouths back on the characters."
The bold part could mean that it was true that Futurama was on hold when the Voice Cast didn't reach a deal with Fox the first time.. or not hahaha UPDATE - July 31, 2009 @ 21H00 According to Variety.com, 3 of the main Futurama Voice Actors already signed a deal with 20th Century Fox TV, we are talking about Maurice LaMarche (Kif, Morbo), Tress MacNeille (Mom, Linda) and Katey Sagal (Leela). About Billy West (Fry, Professor Farnsworth, Zoidberg, Zapp) and John DiMaggio (Bender) aparently will reach a deal very soon, perhaps by the end of the week. I don't know what will happen with Phil LaMarr (Hermes), Lauren Tom (Amy), David Herman (Scruffy) and Frank Welker (Nibbler + many animal sounds)... hopefully they also will reach a deal with Fox. UPDATE - July 31, 2009 @ 15H50 The deal was just confirmed by Maurice 'Moe' LaMarche (Kif) at his Facebook page! (I can't post the status of Maurice without his permission, but believe me, he says he closed the deal) UPDATE - July 31, 2009 @ 15H10 According to Rob Salem from TheStar.com, apparently the Futurama Voice Cast has finally signed a deal with 20th Century Fox TV, after many days of negotiation, the article: The compromise agreement, with the studio paying more and the actors accepting less, comes after the announcement of a 26-episode pick-up here by Comedy Central. Futurama also airs internationally in syndication, has produced four bestselling straight-to-DVD movies (later cut into episodes) and an upcoming feature film.
So, apparently there is a deal with Fox, reaching an agreement, as everyone expected. The deal is an intermediate salary between what the Voice Actors wanted and what Fox wanted to pay.. interesting. The weird part is the "upcoming feature film".. according to Matt Groening at the SDCC 2009, they would love to do one, but I think is still an idea.. it could be great if they release a Feature Film in the future. This day has been all about Futurama merchandise.. And the title is true, you can already preorder the Futurama Wall Calendar 2010 at Amazon.com. The price listed is $11,19 with Pre-order Price Guarantee, and the item will be available since August 4, 2009.
As you can see, the cover features the New Justice Team: Clobberella, Super King and all the rest.. (Captain Yesterday haha) from the episode "Less Than Hero" + a giant Nibbler, signed (I think) by Bill Morrison (Art Director of Futurama) and the Calendar's theme will be comics parodies. Thanks a lot to Officer 1BDI, I 'm glad to show you over here the previews of each month. She attended the SDCC 2009, and over there she took some photos of the upcoming calendar... so there you go the comic featured for each month (click the image to see it bigger --->):

Oh my! Amazon.com has a great Gold Box Deal of the Day!!
Is a great opportunity that you should not miss if you want to get the Seasons on DVD. In case you dodn't know, the DVDs are packed with a lot of Extras like the DVD Commentaries, Skecthes, 3d Animations, Easter Eggs, Galeries and many other stuff that any Futurama fan will enjoy. In a way, by buying the Seasons 1-4 you're supporting Futurama, letting Fox know that we love the show (for Fox, that means, that we the fans will buy the Futurama merchandise) with the original Voice Cast, and that you want the Series to continue with them. by JavieR / July 29, 2009 / 23:46
Hi. I'll try to add a fast update, but is difficult because there's a lot of nice stuff for today. I'm gonna start with a new fanart by MissusPatches featuring the Robot Devil with her neat coloring, but this time the sketch was made by her friend Sof-Sof. I've also added a new photo in the Photorama section of TFP (Yes, you can send your Futurama related photos over here!) The photo, also by MissusPatches, is a Planet Express Spaceship real cake that was inspired by one of the drawings she made as a birthday present to Sof-Sof, and I said to her (at dA) that she should do a real cake, so there you go!
I've also added a some new neat fanart by FuturamaFreak1, 11 fanarts, this time 3 featuring Leela and her addiction to electricity since she used that shock collar in the "Bender's Game" DVD movie, a Birthday present for Oxy, Leela and Fry eating Charleston Chew, a surpresive Leela over Fry, Leela in a test comic, a cooperation one (from IWGY) Fry and Leela in a laser fight, Matt Groening hitting the Reset Button in Fry & Leela's Relationship and finally, my favorite and featured today, Leela kicking Benders Head! Enjoy! by JavieR / July 28, 2009 / 23:50
Time for a nice normal update at TFP. I'm gonna start with the fanart created by Sof-Sof (aka Yume93). I've added 6 of her images, some featuring Fry's B-Day, other featuring Fry with Leela and Zoidberg, and some other weird ones that you know she creates...
I've also added today 1 neat art created by Y2W, this time featuring a very sexy Leela and Amy in hand-to-hand combat, being observed by Bender's Robo-Puppy. Is an alternate view of the wrestling featured in one of the greatest episode of Futurama, "Jurassic Bark". About the Voice Cast vs. Fox, there's nothing new yet (I mean, no verfied news..), but I hope they can figure out a way not to hurt Futurama. BTW, I've added a new banner created by ckrower (a new artist) that features a mad main crew (Fry, Leela and Bender) to support the Voice Cast. You can see it also in the Keep the Futurama Voice Cast page. by JavieR / July 26, 2009 / 23:58
Hello again. Well, I'm more bemused than angry after the Futurama Panel at the San Diego Comic Con 2009.. so we have to wait once again.. we waited 4 years for the DVD movies.. so we know what it feels like. That's why I've added the Keep the Futurama Voice Cast page:
http://slurmed.com/?p=keep-the-futurama-voice-cast
You can share it with averyone that has not supported the voice cast yet, or add it toyour site and the corner banner has a link to that page (only if you want to..) So, what's new around here.. let's see. Oh my yes! Brand new Comics, 2 of them both created by FuturamaFreak1. Both are really funny.. the first one is called Sunday Futurama (original script by ooy) involving Fry, Leela, exercise and Zoidberg, and the other one is called Yet another Test Comic.. featuring Leela, Fry and FuturamaFreak1 himself, and thlking about the Futurama Voice Cast problem.. I also added 4 new fanarts today this time created by wolich22.. all of them featuring heads-in-a-jar from different artists at deviantART, including sof-sof and Mike Jessen (Kaspired).. so be sure to check that out! by JavieR / July 25, 2009 / 16:05
Thanks to all the people from Twitter: @britl, @Futurama_maniac, @AtticusSays, @thedeannab, @julia_grace, @lexigeek, @smellack, @JGed + others.
First, the cast was not present, only Matt Groening, David X Cohen, Animators and Writers.. and the panel begun with a message from the Hypnotoad to ignore the cast not being there. Then Matt Groening presented the panel, the important words: "We love our Futurama actors. We hope that FOX and the actors can come to an agreement as soon as possible"
Then the panel started reading quotes from behind the scenes, and reading handwritten cards of old episodes (with the video of the episode) with no emphasis in expression, kinda showing thir support to the Futurama voice cast. THe panel also offered prices for good questions, but not for questions about the voice cast, and when they ran out of Futurama merchandise, they gave out 2 box sets of Family Guy... yes, you read me right... They are considering a Theatrical Feature of Futurama, becaus Matt Groening said that "We'd love to do a Futuramatheatrical feature, It's really fun to see Futurama on the big screen"... And the wormhole from the last part of the last movie, Into the Wild Green Yonder, will be considered, but it wil not be the main plot of the 1st episode of Season 6. The writers, Matt and David X (I assume) say that "is harder to come up with new stories than new jokes". About the Voice Cast, David X Cohen said: "[..] hope for the best and it may work out."
"Keep your fingers crossed. What's going on right now is business" So, they are waiting for the Voice Cast to work out the problem with 20th Century Fox TV... and there's nothing else to say about that... Now, what about the new stuff that Futurama will have in the new seasons, here you go a list of ideas/episodes that the panel talked about [SPOILERS WARNING]:
by JavieR / July 24, 2009 / 22:14
It seems that people is divided into know if the Futurama recast is for real, or if is a mean joke made by Fox Executives to have all our attention. Well, let's see the new stuff until today.. but first, a new fanart by spamnco, a new artist around here with an image perfect for this entry featuring the main Futurama crew protesting for the recast news...
Yesterday, Phil LaMarr (Hermes) said at his Facebook page (replying a fan about the Comic Con) that: I'm curious to see what happens. They just dis-invited the cast members who were supposed to appear (at the Comic Con panel) so it may not be entertaining but it'll certainly be interesting.
Maurice LaMarche (Kif) also posted at the Save the Voices of Futurama Facebook group to clarify a few things: [..] Just to clarify, we have NOT been kicked out of Comic-Con completely. In fact, gotta give 'em credit, Fox was good enough to keep our registrations and hotel arrangements "alive", (although at our own expense), perhaps because somebody, somewhere at Fox Productions is preparing some kind of reasonable offer back to us, in time to save the panel. Who knows? Maybe they're just being decent. Anyway, I always express gratitude when I can, [..] thank you, Fox. And thank you to our friends, Matt & Dave, thank you Marcy and Antonia, and thank you, Lee.
The "Good news, Everyone" is that we (the cast) WILL still be signing autographs in the Sail Pavilion from 3pm til 7pm. Come by, say hi [..] And if you have questions, and we can legally and ethically answer them, we will. [..] And, further point of clarification, there STILL WILL BE a Futurama panel (as of this writing, anyway). Just not including us. So, go check it out, if you like. I just hope that what is said from up there is accurate and fair, as we will not be there to rebut. However, I do still dare to think that Matt, Dave and the writer-producers are our friends. The people who have been doing this "recasting thing", are the "Box Executives", not Matt and David X. Be nice to them. The last part in bold was mentioned later, according to a post at PEEL that I can't find for the moment. So, we know that the Futurama Voice Actors will not be at the Futurama Panel tomorrow at the San Diego Comic Con, but they will be thre signing autographs. Also, the Panel is going to happen (unless there's an last minute agreement to save the panel). BTW, if you're gonna be at the panel and want to ask something about the recast, please be Polite! Very early today Billy West (Fry) posted at his forum: [..] I am going to be at Comicon on Saturday and Sunday. Here's where to find me.
Saturday: I will be joining my friends Matt Groening and David X. Cohen for the "Bender Head" signings. Then from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM I will be joining Phil La Mar, Johnny D. and Maurice to sign photos on Autograph Alley. [..] This confirms the fact that the Futurama Voice cast will be at the Autograph Alley from 3 to 7 pm, but perhaps Katey Sagal is not gonna be there.. I don't know. All of this makes you wonder (me included), that all about the recast is true, that Fox is really not willing to pay a little more to retain the awesome Futurama Voice Cast. But then, IGN.com posts an interview with John DiMaggio (Bender). The Highlights: About the recast:
"[..] In other words, no comment. I really can't talk about it. All I can say is that Matt and David have such a wonderful project and I love it dearly - love it to death. And hopefully we'll be able to work it out. And I think we will. It's just going to take a little time and that's about it." About the fans supporting them: "Yeah, the fans have been really wonderful and that's really great. But you know, that's just the way it goes. That's just the way this show business works. And we'll see what happens. Hopefuly... I have a good feeling it's going to turn out for the best. That's about it. That's all I've got. That's all I have to say about that!" John sounds very optimistic, so perhaps this whole Recast problem that put in Beige Alert to the Futurama Community is gonna ve solved in a near future. I still wanna see what will happen at the Futurama Panel tomorrow at the SDCC... hopefully some finally good news to calm the Futurama fans. by JavieR / July 23, 2009 / 14:39
Did you noticed the top right corner banner? Well, you can also Support the Voice Cast in your site or blog (thanks to Archonix for the idea). Just add this code inside the <body> ..</body> of your page:
<div style="position:fixed;top:0px;right:0px;z-index:99;"><a href="http://slurmed.com/?p=keep-the-futurama-voice-cast" title="Find out what you can do to support the Futurama Voice Cast!"><img src="http://slurmed.com/cast/campain/futurama-keep-voice-cast.gif" border="0" width="150" height="150" /></a></div> (only 4.24 KB) Well, is time to relax a little with some fanart from different artists. I'm gonna start with an image by Melanie Gracey, featuring the real Human Bender with black hair (he is from Mexico right). A new fanart by Tastes-Like-Fry with Fry parodying Star Wars from the episode "When Aliens Attack". A new oeaki image featurng Leela, Fry and Bender by echidnite. The final artist today is FuturamaFreak1, with 12 fanarts featuring many many Leela (like the one featured today) in different poses and situations (actino, sexy, generic.. you name it!), and 3 images of the main crew, Fry, Leela and Bender. Time for me to go, but I'll try to add some news later with the latest info related to the Recast of the Futurama Voices... by JavieR / July 21, 2009 / 18:01
I'll try to add what I've read chronologically, perhaps you read it first if you are already following TFP on Twitter. First, some new info by Phil LaMarr from his Facebook page, where he says:
"Article in Variety - apparently Fox has decided to just make up numbers. The $75,000 figure they cite is not even close to what the cast is asking for. If it was, Katey Sagal would be there now during character designs!"
So, it means that the $75,000 number is a lot more than what the cast is really asking for (and that for that salary, they will be working right now in character design, something that voice actors don't have to do). It also means that the numbers are being inflated.. and something says to me that is in order to make believe that the voice cast is being greedy, and that's not true imo, because they love Futurama as we do. Later, an ad at Craigslist.org was found by Craig Crumpton, asking for "new voices" for the reacast of Futurama, that will be handled by Dandrige Entertainment. Since the ad says "submissions must be from unrepresented sag actors only" and "no pay", many people believed that this is a mean joke, it turns out that it could be true. I say this because I talked with Craig Crumpton from Voice Actors in the News. He has been reporting voice actors news for 10 years, and this is what he said about the ad in his futurama voice cast blog entry: It has been brought to my attention that there is speculation that the Craigslist ad is nothing more than a prank.
"I just got off the phone with a representative from Dandridge Entertainment who stated that the ad "is not a prank", and added that the same notice has been forwarded by a number of other agencies to their voice talents." Even with that info, I still believe and hope that 20th Century Fox TV is not that stupid to really replace the Futurama voice cast. I also still believe that a deal will appear.. it is obvious that the original voice cast is needed if Futurama is coming back. I don't think that 20th Century Fox TV really wants to burry the show before the new season starts, but hey, Futurama has been treated like garbage many times before, and that's what worries me... In the meantime, is not wrong to sign the online petitions asking not to recast the Futurama voices: http://www.petitiononline.com/futura13/petition.html http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/futuramarecast/ ..and join in the Facebook groups already created: Leave the cast of Futurama alone!!!! + Save the Voices of Futurama by JavieR / July 19, 2009 / 19:42
Hi everyone... like all the Futurama fans, I'm hoping that 20th Century Fox TV and the Original Voice Cast can find an agreement this week, and better if this Monday everything is solved.
I'm gonna start with some Web 2.0 news. You can now Follow TFP on Twitter (did you notice the sky blue bar at the top of the site?). Thru this channel, you'll get extra updates, extra info, thoughts and art.. everything Futurama related, that I'll not always post here at the site. I've some nice images from the fans, 3D images! First, I've added 3 new 3D arts from FuturamaFreak1, featuring the Planet Express ship, 3 takes from inside the Planet Express building and one with Leela, Fry and Bender. I also added 2 new 3D images by a new artist over here, blendedhead. His images feature Bender floating in space, and the one featured today, a neat bender rendering with a kick ass steel texture. Enjoy! by JavieR / July 18, 2009 / 23:52
This day has been restless in the Futurama Community. A lot of ideas, rants and opinions about if the original voice cast is going to continue or not, because of the "brilliant" announcement of 20th Century Fox TV to recast all the major Futurama characters.
It seems like a way to get all the attention of the media and the fans prior the San Diego Comic-Con 2009. Why? Let's see some facts:
So, there you have it. According to some later reading, it seems that the problem is because of the reduced budget. Hopefully voice actors and 20th century Fox TV can end this with a peaceful deal prior the SDCC 2009 Futurama Panel, otherwise, paramedics are gonna be truly necesary next Saturday, July 25th, at Ballroom 20. by JavieR / July 18, 2009 / 11:41
Some more new info since yesterday, July 17, about the problem of the Futurama voice cast.
Don't forget that 20th Century Fox TV is the production studio of Futurama, and that is not FOX Network. HITFLIX.com, is clarifying that "[..] they are not the same thing and they have completely different corporate structures and a deal with one is not a deal with the other". Talking about salaries of the voice cast, Variety.com says that: "It's believed that the Futurama cast members were asking for around $75,000 per episode; it was not clear what 20th (Century Fox TV) was offering. Calls to the voice stars' reps were not immediately returned." This is insane because the Simpsons voice cast get paid around $400,000 per episode, that means that the Futurama cast is asking the 19% of the salary of the Simpsons cast per regular character (that's my guess). I've also read that people are trying to contact the Futurama voice cast agents and producers Matt Groening and David X Cohen, but there's no luck yet, except for the statements of Phil LaMarr (Hermes) at his Facebook page: "It's a negotiating ploy by 20th Century Fox studio. It's the same thing they did w/ the Simpsons several years ago. They're hoping to scare the actors into accepting lower pay. They don't think that it matters to the audience who is doing the voices. If people's emails don't convince them, maybe they'll find out at the Comic-Con panel next week." "Let the powers-that-be know how you, the people who gave the show ratings, bought DVDs, put money in their pockets and brought the show back from the dead, feel about the recasting." The question that emerges right now is: What will happen to the San Diego Comic Con 2009 Futurama Panel?. The Guest are Billy West, Katey Sagal, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Matt Groening & David Cohen, and they are supposed to appear on Saturday, July 25. UPDATE 1: I've added the (supposed) "Press Release for the recast of the Futurama voices" at the Futurama returns! news section. Sources: HITFLIX.com, Variety.com, Facebook.com by JavieR / July 17, 2009 / 18:25
Bad news everyone. According to EW.com and THR.com, the original voice cast of Futurama is apparently not going to perform in the future episodes of the series. According to both sources, this is what 20th Century Fox TV (not FOX network) said:
"We love the Futurama voice performers and absolutely wanted to use them, but unfortunately, we could not meet their salary demands. While replacing these talented actors will be difficult, the show must go on. We are confident that we will find terrific new performers to give voice to Matt and David's brilliantly subversive characters."
Now, THR.com is also adding that: "Sources indicated that it is still possible that the two sides may come to an agreement." ..and I think they will, because I know all the voice cast loves Futurama! (fingers crossed everyone) Sources: EW.com, THR.com by JavieR / July 15, 2009 / 22:52
So, I've been doing nothing, so what about updating TFP, that's gonna cheer me up! I've uploaded some fanart from nice fanartists within the Futurama Community. The first one is Sof-Sof (aka Frygirl [or] Yume93) with 5 new images featuring Fry, Queen Fry (don't ask..), Leela and Fry asking not to delete their love (reference of the last Futurama DVD Movie, "Into the Wild Green Yonder", when the series continue in 2010), a fanart of Fry-Day, and an image of Fry with the Fry from Universe 1.
The other artist today is Jack, and I've added 3 of his watercolor fanarts featuring this time Amy lying confortable in a bed, Fry with 2 toys (Bender doll and Planet Express starship model) and the one featured today, Amy and Fry playing as kids inside a sandbox. by JavieR / July 13, 2009 / 23:35
So, I'm kinda sick.. with a flu, hopefully just a normal one lol, today I'm not sleeping because I slept all the afternoon, so I've time to update TFP (despite my lame Internet connection here in my house).
I'm gonna start with a fanafic that I should add some time ago, but for a extrange reason, I lost the file with the fanfic, or perhaps the email with the text didn't arrive. Anyway, Here it is, a new Simpsons/Futurama Crossover, the plot: A Simpson crossover with Futurama. This story takes place a couple of years before Fry gets frozen into the future. He moves to Springfield with his parents and meets the Simpsons.. it was created by MoonDay, so go and take a read. The new artist around here is well known in my opinion. He is FuturamaFreak1, and I've to say that he is really talented creting Futurama fanart. Today I've uploaded 12 of his images, but I've more that I'll add later. The fanarts feature many Leela images.. with Yivo, relaxing, with the martian muck leech, chained up, and 2 handrawn ones. There's also a generic image of Fry, a Simpsons/Futurama image, FuturamaFreak1 and Fry, a Freakshow, Leela with Bender and their electricity addiction.. and finally, a image of Leela with an electric snail. BTW, I've jazz it up the Alien Alphabet section a little bit since it was very outdated, specially adding a easier explanation of the AA2. That's all, more stuff very soon! by JavieR / July 9, 2009 / 15:24
Hi everyone. Is time to update TFP, and today I'm gonna start with a new artist over here. Her name is chika-glamz and she is the daughter of mr35mm, both from Argentina. I've added 2 images featuring Leela painting a cyclops version of Fry, and the other of Bender sobing because there's no more beer left...
The other fanart is of course made by her father, mr35mm, and features Zapp, Leela, Kif, Bender and Fry in a spaceship. Perhaps the image is part of a future animation, but I'm not going to say anything else. Enjoy! by JavieR / July 6, 2009 / 13:31
Well, this is just a small update for all the people that didn't know about Futurama in the San Diego Comic Con 2009, from July 23 to July 26 of 2009 in the San Diego Convention Center. There you go the details of the Futurama Panel:
by JavieR / July 3, 2009 / 14:44
Well, it seems that FOX want to get a lot of money with the exclusive release of the Futurama Complete Collection. Only 500 numbered boxes will be available prior the San Diego Comic Con according to the Official Press Release posted at TVShowsOnDVD.com (thanks to Zack for the link).
According to them, you will have to preorder the Collection for $200 at FoxStore.com (go to the article mentined above for more details about the pre-sale).. of course, the set will be numbered from 1 to 500, and you'll get a limited edition poster. The catch is that you'll have to pick up your Box only at the San Diego Comic Con (or make someone pick it up for you). The apparently good news is that the Futurama Complete Collection will be available for everyone since October of 2009, but there's no detail if you will receive the Bender Head box, I really hope so. by JavieR / July 3, 2009 / 13:06
Well, time to add some new fanart for all of you to enjoy. I'm gonna start with a new image by the well known Paul A Metcalfe, this time is a new impressionist image feturing Amy Wong (and he said that Fry and Bender with this style are coming soon!)
The other artist today is Mike Jessen (aka Kaspired) with 4 new fanarts. The images feature Amy and Leela as slaves, Amy as a cowgirl, Fry and Leela watching an invisible dog and featuring a dA artist, fry-plus-leela-4-eva, and a taxi ride of Fry and Leela featuring Dancefever92 (also from dA). Bye. Support TFP: |
